Almería

Almería has provided an ideal setting for many a western film and there are still complete wild-west sets to be found.  Two other important virtues - the greatest number of sunshine hours in Spain and some excellent sandy beaches. Fortunately, while both have attracted large numbers of visitors, development has been limited.

Visit:
Cabo de Gato, Las Alpujarras, Mojacar

Cabo de Gato on the south-eastern tip, with some excellent and empty beaches hidden between cliffs and Las Alpujarras which stretch into Granada. The toown of Mojácar, offers a rather fashionable place to be based. Generally, Almería has some excellent spots for bird-watchers, especially with the lagoons and dunes of the volcanic-based Cabo de Gata Natural Park.

Just so you know:
Ameria has the greatest number of sunshine hours in Spain and some excellent sandy beaches. Fortunately, while both have attracted large numbers of visitors, the resulting development to date has been limited. There are some excellent spots to sunbathe along the coastline running north from the Cabo de Gata. Both inland and coast offer some worthwhile places to visit.
